Glenpool’s Madelynn Guilliams – Cheer Spotlight – Presented by Redbud Physical Therapy

Glenpool’s Madelynn Guilliams

Cheerleading is a perfectionist sport. This is the biggest challenge of cheer according to Madelynn Guilliams, a senior at Glenpool High School. Difficult routines including tumbling and stunts must be completed with precision while the cheerleaders make it look effortless.

“I am passionate about making sure my team is successful and competitive. I’m most enthusiastic about stunting,” Madelynn said. “People love to question whether or not cheer is a sport but those who know about cheer know that’s not really even a question.” 

The GHS cheer team is a spirit squad and a state-qualifying competitive squad. Her best cheer memory was winning third place at state as a sophomore.

“We compete at state. We cheer at football games, basketball games and wrestling duals. We perform at pep assemblies. We also host a youth camp and volunteer at the elementary,” she says. 

Madelynn’s favorite part of cheer is gaining a family with her team. Caytlin Heilmann is a team who left a big impression on her.

“She was a senior my freshman year. She was always very patient. Caytlin was a team leader and always worked hard,” says Madelynn.

Her favorite teacher and biggest inspiration are Mrs. Reed who teaches English and is also the cheer coach.

“She is like a mother figure to me. She is a very honest and hard-working person with the kindest heart and always does the right thing even when it’s hard. I hope I can be half the person she is when I’m older,” Madelynn said. “I want to thank my aunt for taking me in over the past few years and all she does for me. I want to thank my little sister for being my biggest motivation to be successful. Lastly, I want to thank Jon and Melissa Reed for always pushing to do better.”

Her dream vacation is to go to New York City for Christmas with family and friends. Seeing the city in the snow, glowing with Christmas lights is a site Madelynn hopes to experience someday.
