Glenpool High School senior Tarrence Christel started competing in track and field at the
age of 14. During that time, he has developed into a solid thrower for the Warriors. “In shot-put I put in some very hard work on my footwork and in discus I’m very determined on positioning and release. Those are my strengths. I improved on my shot release and power,” said Christel.
This season has marked a lot of successful throws and a closeness to his teammates that
Christel enjoys. “I think what I enjoy the most about this season is the talks me and my teammates have in the tent before we throw,” said Christel.
Christel said the support he and the team receive from everyone at school and their
families means a lot to him and the team. “The teachers and coaches are very hard on us because they want to see us win and go far,” Christel said. “It’s very important to me it means so much knowing that I have a support system on my side. How they support and help me better myself, we all learn from each
other and it’s just great.”
During the down time at track meets, Christel said he has a routine he likes to stick to while
waiting for his events to start. “Usually, I would throw with my headphones on and warmup and just picture myself throwing and in the positions and cancel out everything else,” said Christel.
After high school, Christel plans to begin working towards a career in high demand. “To get a career in welding if I don’t end up getting a scholarship and just make some
money,” said Christel. His inspiration to accomplish his goals comes from someone close to home.
“I’d say my mom, she gets up every morning and works her butt off just to get me and my
sister what we need and rarely complains,” said Christel.
