The Glenpool girl’s varsity soccer team got off to a quick start this season with four shutout wins, one of them in overtime. One player doing her part to help the team succeed is Alexis Winkle.
Winkle can play center mid, keeper, but she would love to try and play another position.
“I started playing soccer in kindergarten, and I am still playing in my senior year,” Winkle said. “I am a center mid, and goalkeeper. I would love to try to play striker.”
The senior said there are many things she loves about her team and teammates. Their willingness to work hard and push themselves has equaled success this season, but Winkle said she also loves how they can have fun and bring a sense of humor to the field.
“I love my team’s humor,” Winkle said. “I love the coaches and the relationship that you build while being on a team.”
Winkle said she has been impressed with Allie Townes and her coach Derek Phillips.
“Derek Phillips is an amazing coach and has always been there for the team on and off the field,” said Winkle.
On the field, Winkle said one of her strengths is making quick decisions that can help put her teammates in positions to be successful.
“My strength is my decision making, I would want to improve more on my finishing,” said Winkle.
The senior is involved in leadership at GHS and plans to continue her education at Northeastern State University next fall.
As for her plans for the summer, Winkle has a list of things she would like to do with her time off.
“I love being outside during the summer,” Winkle said. “I want to volunteer at an animal shelter, this summer.”
