VYPE Magazine caught up with Aaliyah at signing day to discuss the decision to take her talents to Northeastern Oklahoma State next season.
VYPE: What made NSU the right school for you?
Aaliyah Shawnee: They like to recruit girls from Oklahoma, and I knew some of the girls on the team. I played against them.
VYPE: Who helped you get here today?
AS: My team and brothers. My brother Jaden pushed me really hard. All of the fans and supporters helped me get here today.
VYPE: When you look back on your time at Glenpool HS, what will you remember most?
AS: Making it to state and the friendships I’ve made while playing here.
VYPE: Next year when you step onto the NSU campus, what are you hoping to contribute to the team?
AS: I want to be a good teammate and work hard. I want to help make them better than they already are.
VYPE: What has coach Belveal at Glenpool meant to you and what have all of your coaches meant to you?
AS: He pushes me to be better, to be the best I can be and always supporting me. All of my coaches have been there for me.
VYPE: What legacy do you want to leave here at GHS?
AS: Keep pushing each other and be a good teammate. Be competitive.
VYPE: What have the fans and the student body who come to games meant to you?
AS: I love it. I love seeing a lot of fans and students in the stands. They come out and support us and that means a lot. We wouldn’t be where we are without them.
VYPE: What’s the goal this year for the Glenpool Lady Warriors?
AS: Win state.
